MEC's First United Way Campaign a Success
March 16, 2010

This year, MEC Saskatoon participated in the Saskatoon & Area United Way Campaign, for the first time. The two week campaign kicked off on September 30 at a social club BBQ lunch, with Fay Thompson, a United Way Loan Representative, and Karen Archibald, from the Child Hunger Education, who came to speak about the impact of United Way on the Saskatoon and area community. The campaign closed on October 14 with a pizza party and the taping of Todd Valentino to the shop wall, which, at $5 per strip of duct tape, raised $130. Overall, the campaign raised $2041, which was more than enough to reach the $1500 incentive level to get Kerwin Boser to wear a HABS jersey for a day (as of yet unseen, KJB!), but not quite enough to reach the $2500 level (so close!) to get Terry Wuschenny to dress in drag for a day, or the $5000 level to get Luis Wilson to dress in drag (wishful thinking, yes). Adam Jaques won Rockstar Parking for 30 days by being the biggest fundraiser, but donated his prize to Andrew Penner, who was not only the first to donate, but donated the second highest amount. Thank all to all of those who participated in the United Way Campaign!
